What are TextWorkshops?

For the last ten years, Dea Birkett and Rebecca Mileham have worked together giving inspirational TextWorkshop training.

We work in-house with curators, learning staff, interpretation developers, researchers, volunteers, youth panels, special interest groups, managers and leaders, sharing our writing techniques and our belief that text in museums can be life-changing.

“Museum label writing is an often under-valued but key skill for staff to master. Bristol Culture & Creative Industries has worked with Dea Birkett and Rebecca Mileham since at least 2016 in order to provide a uniform approach to museum label writing, of very high  quality, for all museum and archive staff.

“Repeated in a regular cycle it enables us to train new staff in this important skill and others to refresh and update their technique. Dea and Rebecca’s approach to training is engaging, very informative, fun and right on the button, it comes highly recommended.”

Our TextWorkshop training days are interactive and fast-paced, including lots of opportunities to write and discuss text, learn new skills and gain valuable professional development. Workshops can focus on developing and writing exhibition text, guidebooks and trails, and marketing materials.

In the UK we have worked in-house with the Science Museum Group, National Museums Liverpool, Bristol Museums, The John Rylands Library, the Waterways Museum, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, the Royal Society, the Scottish Parliament and many more over the years.

Hundreds of staff from museums, galleries, archives, libraries and charities around the world have attended our open TextWorkshops, along with teams involved in community co-production of exhibitions.

Internationally, Dea and Rebecca have taken TextWorkshop expertise to Malta, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Australia, tailoring the content to suit the audience.
